Recently, a group of female political prisoners in Evin Prison in Iran, published a letter opposing to the issuance and execution of the death sentence for the detainees of the recent protests, and announced their sit-in in the office of the guard officer of the Evin Women’s Prison along with the protesters.

The signatories of this letter have asked the people to take similar measures to prevent the execution of death sentences for other protest detainees and to suppress more protesters.

This letter, which was published on Monday in “Harana” news site, states: “Let’s wake up to break the rope around the throat of our youth”.  There is no other way! This time, let’s occupy the streets of the cities with the cry of “stop the executions” and continue the strikes with more strength and inclusiveness.

We in the Women’s Commission of the National Council decided in turn to demand the release of all prisoners and arrestees, including these women who, in the light of their continuous campaigning efforts, witnessed the expulsion of the Islamic Republic from the United Nations Commission on Women after a vote among the 55 members of this commission. The commission was in favour of the member states with 29 votes.

A regime that can easily be said to be one of the most anti-feminist and repressive countries in the world, which has deprived women of the most basic right of a woman and as a human being, which is the freedom of clothing, to legal and traditional restrictions, has deprived women of the right to a normal and humane life, cannot have a place in such an organization. In our opinion, considering the ideological point of view of the Islamic regime that women are “incompetent” and their position is not equal to that of a man, neither in rights, nor in the family, nor in the society, membership of such a country in the commission, was an insult to the beliefs and goals of the United Nations, which has a completely different mission.

We in the Women’s Commission of the Decision Council once again support the matter of expelling the Islamic Republic from the United Nations Commission on Women, and we demand the unconditional release of all political prisoners, including women fighters in prison, who have no crime but to demand to live in the framework of respect, dignity and basic human rights.
